It’s Sonic as you’ve never seen him before! The speedy blue hedgehog gets a new look in this comedy adventure series that follows him battling a familiar foe, in SONIC BOOM.
This set of episodes sees some unexpected love advice from a surprising source, a head-to-head robot battle and the unexpected and shocking return of a familiar face that even has Dr. Eggman quivering in his boots.
Supported by his trusty sidekick, Tails, plus pals Knuckles, Amy and Sticks, the gang is seen trying to ward off the evil plans of Dr. Eggman, who is determined to take over the world. Packed full of high-adrenaline action every episode starts from a small character-driven story and explodes into an epic tale of adventure as Sonic battles robots to save the world.
Can Sonic and his squad save the day and stop Dr. Eggman’s evil plans? Find out when SONIC BOOM VOLUME 4: NO ROBOTS ALLOWED is released on DVD and Digital Download from 24th October 2016.
Family & Parenting Magazine was given early access to view the episodes and so we thought there is only one true way to get an accurate review – turn them over to our key Children’s TV reviewers; our 9 and 6 year old freelancers.
We watched the first three episodes; well I listened to the episodes while the kids sat in front of the laptop watching the streaming episodes. It fully captured their attention (leading to prompts of, “keep eating, don’t get distracted too much”, and my questions about how they were enjoying Sonic going unacknowledged as they both stared at the screen).
The episodes are around 11 minutes each which seems like the perfect length to me – enough to get a child-sized plot communicated, but short enough that they can watch an episode and still be in time for bed/school/inevitable child’s birthday party you’d forgotten about.
It was a trip down memory lane for me – I remember Sonic coming out on the games consoles, it’s amazing how well the characters have stood the test of time, and can now entertain the next generation across multi-media platforms.

Sonic Boom: No Robots allowed is a great series of short episodes guaranteed to entertain the kids. There wasn't enough nods to the adults (think Futurama, Simpsons etc), but the characters have stood the test of time and can still fully engage the little ones.
